United States Army

The United States Army is the U.S. military service branch responsible for organizing, training, and equipping active-duty and reserve forces for land operations and national defense. In the Shuttle era, Army personnel also supported selected Department of Defense human-spaceflight payload work, including the Terra Scout payload specialist role flown by Thomas J. Hennen on STS-44.
