This Privacy Policy describes how AeroVia Apps ("AeroVia", "we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, and protects your personal information when you use our mobile application, website, and services (collectively, the "Service").

We collect information necessary to provide our Service:

Information You Provide

When you create an account and use our Service, we collect:

Account information (name, email address, and an optional phone number for SMS authentication)
Profile information you choose to share
Learning progress and activity
Chosen cities, approximate city coordinates, and radii you save for gathering alerts
Forum posts, comments, images, feedback, and AI prompts or conversations you submit
Payment information (processed securely through third-party processors)

Information Automatically Collected

To provide and improve our Service, we collect:

Basic device information
Usage information (pages and features used, interactions, and performance data)
Device location (only if you grant permission, for maps, pass predictions, and local weather)
Approximate region inferred from network information to apply privacy choices and produce analytics
Advertising interaction identifiers used, subject to your privacy choice, to measure campaigns
Search terms used to return matching content
Crash reports and diagnostics used to maintain and improve the Service
Push notification tokens and preferences (if enabled)

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to provide, maintain, and improve our Service, personalize your learning experience, process payments, and communicate with you. We may also use aggregated, anonymized data to understand how our Service is used.

3. Legal Bases for Processing

Depending on your location, we process personal data based on one or more of the following legal bases: performance of our contract with you, legitimate interests, your consent, and legal obligations.

4. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information with third-party service providers who help us operate our Service (including authentication, data storage, diagnostics, product analytics, advertising measurement, AI features, payment processing, maps, and weather), when required by law, or with your consent. Public forum posts are visible to other users. Location coordinates may be sent to mapping providers to identify your city; rounded coordinates are sent to weather providers for local forecasts. Gathering alerts retain the selected city center and radius. If you save an observing location for sighting alerts, we retain its coordinates, label, and optional elevation and device-reported accuracy until you replace or remove it or delete your account. Individual pass alerts retain their chosen observing location until their scheduled record is cleaned up after the pass; notification history may retain the location needed to reopen that pass. Saving a location does not enable background location tracking.

5. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized or unlawful processing, accidental loss, destruction, or damage. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

When you use AeroVia AI, your conversation, relevant AeroVia page references, and published content retrieved to answer you are sent to OpenAI through Vercel AI Gateway. Page references contain routes and public content identifiers, not screenshots, form inputs, drafts, settings, or your location. Mobile includes the last-viewed page in each app tab. The web popup includes only the current page, not other browser tabs. The separate web AI page includes no page references. We request permission before sending on iOS and web. Personal reads, such as notifications, learning progress and notification preferences, and actions on your account each require approval in the conversation. An approved nearby-gathering search uses your device location once within AeroVia; only public results and rounded distances are shared with OpenAI. Saving a city for alerts is a separate approved action. When used, Exa receives web search questions and page URLs, Brave receives image search terms, and Vercel Sandbox receives code and information needed for calculations. You can withdraw AI permission using Reset settings on web or mobile. Other app features remain available.

We save AI conversations, approved tool decisions, and the content retrieved within them so you can return to them. The page reference is supplied for the current reply rather than saved as a separate browsing history. Replies may mention that context. You can delete a conversation or your account.

We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to provide our Service. When you delete your account, we delete your personal information as described in our Account Deletion Policy. Diagnostic data may be retained for a limited period to help maintain and improve the Service. AeroVia does not write search terms or coordinates used for real-time results to its application database.

If you save a city for gathering alerts, we store the selected city, its approximate coordinates, and your alert radius with your account until you remove the alert or delete your account. These saved preferences are separate from device coordinates used for real-time results.

You can request deletion from within the mobile app account/security screens or through the website account settings where available.

7. Your Privacy Choices and Rights

Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data and to object to certain processing.

You can use the Privacy choices button on this page to reject or allow optional analytics storage and expanded advertising measurement at any time. We treat a supported Global Privacy Control signal as a rejection of those optional uses.

8. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use essential technologies and limited measurement without optional storage to operate, secure, diagnose, and improve the Service. Optional analytics storage and expanded product and advertising measurement help us understand feature use, improve performance, and measure campaigns. These technologies may process device, page, campaign, performance, and interaction data and may use cookies or similar browser storage. Where required, your choice controls whether optional storage and expanded measurement are enabled.

9. International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your data in accordance with applicable data protection laws.

10. Children's Privacy

Our Service is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately. If we discover that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete that information promptly.

11. Non-Profit Commitment

As a non-profit organization, we are committed to protecting your privacy while fulfilling our mission of providing accessible education. Any data we collect is used for improving our educational services and platform operations.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
