United States Department of Defense

The United States Department of Defense is the federal executive department responsible for coordinating and supervising U.S. national-defense agencies and military services. Its space activities have included national-security satellite programs, launch operations, tracking and communications systems, missile warning, and classified and unclassified payloads flown aboard NASA's Space Shuttle.
