American scientist who flew as a payload specialist on two NASA Space Shuttle missions in 1997. He received a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from Princeton University in 1979 and a master of science degree from the design division of the mechanical engineering department at Stanford University in 1984; he was awarded a doctorate in mechanical and aerospace engineering from Princeton in 1990. During his spaceflight time and currently, Linteris is a staff scientist in the Fire Research Division of the Engineering Laboratory at the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
