Michael Reed Barratt, born on April 16, 1959, in Vancouver, Washington, is an American physician and NASA astronaut. He is board certified in internal and aerospace medicine. Before being selected as an astronaut in 2000, he served as a flight surgeon for NASA and played a role in developing NASA's space medicine programs for the Shuttle-Mir Program and the International Space Station. Barratt's first spaceflight was a long-duration mission to the International Space Station as a Flight Engineer for Expedition 19/20, during which he participated in the transition from three to six permanent station crew members and performed two spacewalks. He also flew on STS-133, which delivered the Permanent Multipurpose Module and fourth Express Logistics Carrier to the ISS. Barratt launched to the International Space Station March 3, 2024, as pilot of NASA’s SpaceX Crew-8 mission. He has spent a total of 212 days in space across his missions.
