Pavel Ivanovich Belyayev, born on June 26, 1925, in Chelishchevo, Russia, was a Soviet cosmonaut and fighter pilot. He commanded the Voskhod 2 space mission in March 1965, during which Alexei Leonov performed the first spacewalk. Belyayev had to manually control the spacecraft's re-entry due to the failure of the automatic system. He died in 1970 from peritonitis following a stomach ulcer operation.
