Robert Louis Behnken, born on July 28, 1970, in St. Ann, Missouri, is an American engineer and former NASA astronaut. He holds a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering. Behnken was selected as an astronaut in 2000. He flew on Space Shuttle missions STS-123 in March 2008 and STS-130 in February 2010, and served as Joint Operations Commander on the first crewed flight of the SpaceX Crew Dragon, the Demo-2 mission, which landed August 2, 2020. He has accumulated 93 days, 11 hours and 42 minutes in space and 61 hours and 10 minutes of extravehicular activity (EVA) time during 10 spacewalks. Behnken also served as Chief of the Astronaut Office from 2012 to 2015. He retired from NASA on November 11, 2022.
