Air Force Armament Museum

The Air Force Armament Museum, directly off Highway 85 just north of Shalimar and outside the Eglin Air Force Base installation in Florida, is the only museum in the world dedicated to the collection, preservation and exhibition of artifacts and memorabilia associated with Air Force armament and its delivery platforms. More than 29 aircraft and several hundred pieces of armament, including guns, bombs, missiles and rockets, span World War II through modern air power; examples include the AC-130, B-17, B-52, P-51, A-10, F-15 and F-16. Admission and parking are free. The operator’s current visitor guidance lists interior museum hours of 09:00–17:00 daily, with the interior closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas; the outdoor Air Park is open daily from sunup to sundown. Food and drink are not permitted inside except water in clear containers, and picnic tables are available in the Air Park. The museum has accessible restrooms and a limited number of complimentary loan wheelchairs; registered service dogs are welcome, but other pets are not allowed. Most visitors tour independently. Groups of five or more may request a volunteer guided tour of about one to one and a half hours by contacting the museum at least one week in advance; the FAQ also lists AC-130 Gunship “The First Lady” interior tours on the third Friday of each month from 09:00–14:00.
