Aurora 7 Splashdown Site

The Atlantic Ocean splashdown point where Mercury-Atlas 7 spacecraft Aurora 7 returned Scott Carpenter to Earth on May 24, 1962. NASA’s current mission record places the site at 19 degrees 29 minutes north, 64 degrees 5 minutes west after the spacecraft overshot its intended area; Carpenter was retrieved by helicopters from USS Intrepid and the capsule was recovered by USS John R. Pierce.
