AuScope Katherine Station

AuScope Katherine Station is a 12-metre Patriot-style radio telescope at Charles Darwin University’s Katherine Rural Campus in the Northern Territory, one of three Australian AuScope VLBI observatories. The University of Tasmania describes the array as three identical 12-metre telescopes; its Katherine station page lists a 2–14 GHz dual-linear-polarisation system and the antenna coordinates. AuScope’s current explainer identifies Katherine as one of Australia’s three Southern Hemisphere VLBI stations and places the array among the most active telescopes in its 2025 observing summary. Geoscience Australia explains that the partnered VLBI observations support the global geodetic reference frame, precise positioning and timing, satellite navigation and remote-sensing orbit determination.
