Barreira do Inferno Launch Centre (Centro de Lançamento da Barreira do Inferno, CLBI) is Brazil’s first space launch centre and an operational military and research site in Parnamirim, Rio Grande do Norte, created on 12 October 1965. Its mission covers sounding-rocket launches and support, aerospace tracking, telemetry, payload-data collection and processing, tests and experiments, and related aerospace research; because of its proximity to Natal, the Brazilian Space Agency says it handles sounding rockets rather than large orbital launch vehicles. CLBI also supports tracking and telemetry for launches conducted from other spaceports, including Alcântara and historically the Guiana Space Centre, and current Brazilian notices document continuing sounding-rocket and recovery-system operations. The nearby Centro de Cultura Espacial e Informações Turísticas exhibition centre and Centro Vocacional Tecnológico Espacial Augusto Severo education centre are separate public-facing facilities; entry to the operational launch area requires current scheduling and authorization. Check official AEB and Brazilian Air Force notices before travel.
