Boyden Observatory

Boyden Observatory is the University of the Free State active optical research observatory and Science Education Centre about 26 kilometres east of Bloemfontein. It supports astronomy research and public science education through staff-led telescope observations, astronomy presentations and regular open evenings; schools, community groups, amateur astronomers and tourists can arrange visits by appointment. Public open evenings require booking, and organized visits may have a fee; contact Boyden at 051-401 2561 for current dates and arrangements. The site includes multiple telescopes, including the 1.5-metre telescope, and educational assistants support presentations and observations.
