Central Australian Aviation Museum

The Central Australian Aviation Museum occupies the heritage-listed Connellan Airways hangar on the site of the first Townsite aerodrome in Alice Springs. Founded in 1977, it opened the hangar as a museum in May 1979. Its volunteer-run collection tells the story of pioneering aviation in Central Australia through early Royal Flying Doctor Service aircraft, a restored DC-3, the Connellan Airways story, historic radios and aircraft memorabilia, the Townsite aerodrome display and the Kookaburra aviation heritage story. The operator lists visitor access Wednesday–Sunday from 11:00–15:00 and free entry with donations welcome; its contact page notes that the precinct is closed Mondays and Tuesdays and may close unexpectedly on other days if volunteers cannot attend or stay for the full time. Bus routes 400 and 401 stop at Memorial Avenue and Larapinta Drive Monday–Saturday except public holidays, and parking is available in front of the museum.
