Dark Sky Project Tekapo

Dark Sky Project Tekapo is the visitor base for guided stargazing from Mount John, Crater Experience tours at Cowan Private Observatory, and the indoor Dark Sky Experience combining Māori astronomy, storytelling and science. The indoor experience runs year-round in all weather; outdoor tours are weather-dependent and capacity-limited, so book ahead. Guests must check in at the customer service counter at 1 Motuariki Lane 20 minutes before Summit or Crater tours and 10 minutes before indoor experiences; five minutes before departure, un-checked-in guests are treated as no-shows and tickets are released.
