Delta-01 Launch Control Facility preserves the Minuteman missile command post that once controlled ten Minuteman II missiles in its original South Dakota setting. The National Park Service ranger-guided tour covers the grounds and topside support building before descending 31 feet by the original elevator to the underground Launch Control Center. Tours last 45 minutes, require reservations up to 30 days ahead, and are limited to six participants; visitors may walk to the gate without a tour ticket, but entry inside requires a reservation. The route is moderately strenuous, includes a quarter-mile walk, narrow spaces and two 15-foot ladders for emergency egress; children must be at least 40 inches tall and six years old. Summer tours run at 10:00 daily through September 12; winter tours run at 13:00 Tuesday-Saturday from September 15; verify current availability before travel. Address: 243rd Street near Interstate 90 Exit 127, Jackson County, South Dakota 57543, United States.
