Delta-09 Missile Silo is a preserved Minuteman launch facility in the National Park Service’s Minuteman Missile National Historic Site, where visitors can enter the fenced compound and look through a glass enclosure into the launch tube at an unarmed Minuteman II missile. The silo is 12 feet in diameter and 80 feet deep; its door is welded and fitted with a glass roof, and for safety reasons the public cannot enter underground. Current NPS operating guidance lists the site as open Tuesday–Saturday 09:00–15:00 Mountain Time, weather permitting, with seasonal federal-holiday and severe-winter-weather closures possible. Outdoor interpretation and a cell-phone guided tour explain the silo’s technology, dispersed missile-field operation and Cold War deterrence role; no reservation or entrance fee is required for the self-guided visit. The facility is near Interstate 90 Exit 116 in Pennington County, South Dakota 57761, United States; confirm current NPS road, weather and operating notices before travel.
