Devasthal Observatory

Devasthal Observatory is ARIES’s high-altitude research site in Uttarakhand, India, at about 2,450 metres, hosting the 3.6-metre Devasthal Optical Telescope, a 1.3-metre telescope and the international 4-metre liquid-mirror telescope. It is a working research facility rather than a general-public attraction. ARIES’s current visitor guidance says Devasthal Science Centre visits are limited to educational groups such as schools and colleges with prior permission, with a maximum of 30 people; visits to the 3.6-metre DOT and 4-metre liquid-mirror telescope are not allowed. General public and private groups should use ARIES’s separate Manora Peak Science Centre instead. Educational visitors must apply in advance and receive approval; ARIES does not provide transportation or accommodation and has no visitor canteen or restaurant.
