Edwards Air Force Base is a U.S. Air Force flight-test installation in California’s Mojave Desert and home to the Air Force Test Center, Air Force Test Pilot School, and the world’s largest airfield. It has supported landmark flight-test programs and served as a major Space Shuttle landing site, including Challenger’s STS-6 landing in 1983. Access is controlled: the official base guidance currently limits entry to active-duty members and dependents, retirees, and people who work or reside on the installation, with a REAL ID-compliant identification card required for base access. Confirm current Visitor Control Center, gate, and road guidance before travel; this is an active test airfield, not a general public attraction.
