DLR’s German Antarctic Receiving Station GARS O’Higgins on Isabel Riquelme Islet beside Chile’s General Bernardo O’Higgins Base is a year-round, 24/7 satellite ground station. Its 9-metre antenna receives Earth-observation data, transmits satellite commands and supports geodetic radio-telescope observations; DLR also describes on-site data processing and a permanent four-person team. DLR owns and operates the station, while the Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy is responsible for geodetic measurements.
