Ghana Radio Astronomy Observatory

Ghana Radio Astronomy Observatory (GRAO) is an operational 32-metre radio telescope at Kutunse, converted from a former communications ground station as part of the Square Kilometre Array and African Very Long Baseline Interferometry initiatives. Its science programme includes single-dish observations, supported by C-band receivers, control systems, a hydrogen maser, data centre and processing infrastructure. GAEC reported more than 3,000 mostly student visitors in 2025; educational visits can include the 32-metre telescope, control room and data centre. A planetarium is planned to expand public engagement, but no standing public schedule is published here, so contact GAEC or GSSTI to confirm current access before travelling.
