Hartebeesthoek Radio Astronomy Observatory (HartRAO) is SARAO’s active radio astronomy and space-geodesy site about 65 kilometres northwest of Johannesburg, operating 26-metre and 15-metre telescopes, GNSS and geodetic equipment, satellite laser ranging, and a VGOS station under commissioning. Public access is offered through scheduled, capacity-limited open days with mandatory registration and indemnity forms. The 23 July 2026 open day reached capacity; visitors also had to leave mobile phones and digital cameras behind and bring their own food and water. Check SARAO for future dates.
