Hawthorn Hill

Hawthorn Hill is the Wright family mansion designed by Wilbur and Orville Wright and completed in Oakwood in 1914. It became the home of Orville, Katharine, and their father Milton, and Orville lived there until his death in 1948, filling the house with practical inventions and custom mechanical systems. The National Historic Landmark also hosted figures including Charles Lindbergh, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, and Alexander Graham Bell. Dayton History opens the preserved home through limited prepaid guided tours on Wednesdays and Saturdays; visitors check in at Carillon Historical Park and travel to the mansion by shuttle, so the site is not available for casual drive-up entry.
