Helsinki University Observatory

Helsinki University Observatory is the University of Helsinki Museum Flame’s astronomy centre in the historic Observatory building completed in 1834 by C.L. Engel and F.W.A. Argelander. Its exhibitions explore astronomy history and the wonders of space; guided tours can add the old observation towers and a planetarium show, with tours available in Finnish, Swedish and English and booked at least a week ahead. The visitor contract changes with the live calendar, so check current opening days, admission and tour availability before travel. The exhibition floor and bookable main-floor venues are accessible via the west garden gate; towers and planetarium are reached by stairs, with an outdoor route to the planetarium, and are not wheelchair accessible.
