INPE Coordenação Espacial do Nordeste is the Brazilian National Institute for Space Research's operating regional centre in Natal. Established around 1970 to support rocket and balloon launches from Barreira do Inferno, it now works on satellite environmental-data collection, CONASAT nanosatellite technology, atmospheric monitoring, geoprocessing, and related space systems. INPE's current visitor program offers free pre-booked visits to the Natal unit for schools, universities, institutions, and the general public, with selectable routes covering balloon launches, ozone monitoring, geoprocessing, and technology development.
