INPE Coordenação Espacial do Nordeste (COENE) is the Brazilian National Institute for Space Research's operational regional centre in Natal, established around 1970 as a support nucleus for rocket and balloon launches at Barreira do Inferno. The unit now works on satellite environmental-data collection and dissemination, CONASAT nanosatellite and data-collection technology, atmospheric monitoring, geoprocessing, and related space systems. INPE currently offers free, pre-booked visits to Natal for schools, universities, institutions and the general public; the INPE team confirms the route and date after the current appointment request. Submit the Natal visit form and wait for confirmation; do not treat the operating unit as an unscheduled walk-in destination.
