JAXA Kakuda Space Center

JAXA Kakuda Space Center in Miyagi leads research and development of rocket engines and space-transport systems, including liquid-propellant engines for launch vehicles, apogee and solid motors, turbopumps, combustors, nozzles, ramjet/RBCC technology and atmospheric re-entry simulation. Its free Space Development Exhibition Room presents rocket and ramjet/RBCC engine components, technical panels, videos and an outdoor liquid-fuel rocket engine. JAXA currently lists exhibition hours 10:00–17:00; Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays are closed from November through March, while those days are open from the spring equinox through October, with additional closure December 29–January 3. Free parking serves 25 passenger cars and 4 large vehicles; the site has wheelchair and stroller access, an accessible toilet and one free loan wheelchair.
