Jet Propulsion Laboratory

Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) is an active research laboratory managed by Caltech for NASA. Its origins trace to Caltech rocket tests in Pasadena’s Arroyo Seco on 31 October 1936; JPL joined NASA in 1958. Today it develops and operates robotic planetary missions, Earth-observing spacecraft, deep-space communications, autonomous systems, scientific instruments and mission-control capabilities. Limited free onsite tours are offered by advance reservation, booked at least three weeks ahead; adult visitors need government-issued identification such as REAL ID or a passport, and tours involve walking and stairs.
