Jodrell Bank Observatory

Jodrell Bank Observatory is the University of Manchester's working radio-astronomy observatory in Cheshire and the flagship site of the Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics. Research began there in 1945; the 76-metre Lovell Telescope, Mark II and other instruments support radio astronomy, telescope operations and technical development, including the e-MERLIN network. The public Discovery Centre is a separate visitor gateway on the same site; the observatory itself is a working research environment and telescope operations can be affected by engineering maintenance or high winds.
