Kielder Observatory

Kielder Observatory is a public outreach astronomical facility in Kielder Forest, Northumberland, beneath some of Europe’s darkest skies. Its programme uses talks, activities and telescope observing for visitors of all ages; sessions typically last up to three hours, with family options and astronomy programmes for children aged 6+. As of the August 2026 visitor update, the main site is temporarily closed because of an unexpected access issue, and some scheduled sessions are being relocated to alternative locations within the Northumberland International Dark Sky Park. The main site and relocated venues admit only scheduled-session guests; all visitors must book in advance and check the booking for the confirmed location.
