Kitt Peak National Observatory Visitor Center

Kitt Peak National Observatory Visitor Center is the public starting point on the Tohono O’odham Nation mountaintop campus, about 56 miles southwest of Tucson at roughly 6,875 feet. Exhibits and docents introduce Kitt Peak’s optical and radio observatories. NOIRLab currently offers guided daytime tours throughout the week; tours are limited to 20 guests and advance reservation is recommended to guarantee a place. Public visits do not include transportation, and telescopes may be unavailable for maintenance. Evening observing programmes use dedicated visitor instruments and are separately scheduled. The summit is a remote working observatory: tours involve extensive walking and stairs, most visited facilities are not wheelchair-accessible, and visitors should review current safety, weather, road and reservation guidance before travel.
