Koonibba Test Range

Koonibba Test Range in South Australia is Southern Launch’s commercial suborbital launch, orbital-re-entry and hypersonic test range, operated in partnership with the Koonibba Community Aboriginal Corporation. Southern Launch describes a range of up to 41,000 km² and 350 km downrange, with a 16.8-metre launch rail for rockets up to 4,200 kg, telemetry, optical and radar instrumentation, payload recovery and secure processing near Ceduna. Southern Launch records 2026 W-5 and W-6 orbital re-entries and the June 2026 Koonibba Rising Rocket mission for Defence Science and Technology Group. The range itself is controlled; public launch viewing follows operator instructions from Koonibba township, and launch operations can close roads and airspace.
