Large Millimeter Telescope Alfonso Serrano

The Large Millimeter Telescope Alfonso Serrano (LMT, or Gran Telescopio Milimétrico) is a 50-metre single-dish steerable millimetre-wave telescope on the summit of Volcán Sierra Negra in Mexico at about 4,600 metres elevation. This binational INAOE–University of Massachusetts facility observes roughly 0.85–4 millimetre wavelengths to study the formation and evolution of planetary systems, stars, black holes and galaxies; its instruments also support international millimetre science programmes including the Event Horizon Telescope. The site is controlled research infrastructure rather than a general walk-in visitor attraction: current operator pages provide restricted scientific and project-access information rather than public visiting hours, so arrange authorization with the LMT/INAOE/UMass team and check high-altitude and national-park access conditions before travel.
