The Atlantic Ocean splashdown point where Mercury-Redstone 4 spacecraft Liberty Bell 7 returned Gus Grissom to Earth on July 21, 1961. NASA records the site at 27 degrees 32 minutes north, 75 degrees 44 minutes west. Grissom was recovered safely by forces from USS Randolph, but the capsule sank after its hatch opened prematurely.
