Lick Observatory is a University of California research observatory on Mount Hamilton, established in 1888, supporting optical and infrared astronomy, instrumentation and public science. As of the current visitor update, the East Grounds and Shane Telescope Gallery are open daily 09:00–17:00, while the historic Main Building and West Peak remain closed during recovery from Christmas-storm damage; limited 2026 paid events are announced separately. The site is an active research facility reached by a long, winding mountain road, with no fuel or automotive services on Mount Hamilton; check the official visitor update and road conditions before travel. Night access requires a ticketed programme.
