Maidanak Observatory

Maidanak Observatory is the high-altitude research site of the Ulugh Beg Astronomical Institute (UBAI), Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences, in the Hissar Mountains of Kashkadarya at about 2,600–2,700 metres. UBAI reports ongoing international astrophysical observing from the site, whose dark-sky conditions support its major Central Asian optical facilities, including a 1.5-metre telescope. It is a working research facility rather than a regular walk-in visitor attraction; current official UBAI material does not publish a standing public visiting schedule. Any arranged tourism or astronomy programme requires advance confirmation of the operator, route, weather, altitude and access conditions before travel.
