Matera Space Geodesy Centre

ASI’s Giuseppe Colombo Centre for Space Geodesy (CGS) is the Italian Space Agency’s main operational centre in Matera, established in 1983 in the Murgia Terlecchia area. It combines space geodesy—satellite laser ranging, very-long-baseline interferometry, GNSS positioning and absolute gravimetry—with remote sensing, satellite and lunar laser ranging at the Matera Laser Ranging Observatory, space-debris tracking, free-space quantum telecommunications, time-and-frequency metrology, and Earth-observation data processing. It is an operational technical campus at Località Terlecchia; ASI publishes an office address and contact details but no general visitor programme, so arrange access before travel.
