McDonald Observatory is the University of Texas at Austin’s major West Texas research observatory and public astronomy destination. Visitors check in at the Frank N. Bash Visitor Center for exhibits, solar viewing, guided telescope tours, talks, teacher programs and night-time star parties; the observatory publishes current Tuesday–Saturday visitor-centre hours of 12:00–17:00 and 20:00–24:00, with reservations required for programs. The site is in the Davis Mountains near Fort Davis, Texas 79734.
