Moffett Field Historical Society Museum

Moffett Field Historical Society Museum was created in 1994 after the Historical Society formed in May 1993; it reopened in Building 126 in April 2005 after hazardous materials closed historic Hangar One. The volunteer-run museum preserves Moffett Field and NASA Ames history from the USS Macon and Army eras through World War II, the Cold War and the present. Exhibits include a USS Macon diorama and airship artifacts, Rear Admiral William Moffett, WASP, Navy patrol and anti-submarine equipment, NASA mission artifacts, military vehicles, a World War I trench experience, P-3 Orion and Harrier VTOL cockpits, an adjacent air park and a 4,000+ volume research library. Public hours are Wednesday–Saturday 10:00–15:00; it is closed Sunday–Tuesday. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for youth ages 5–17, free for children 0–4, $8 for seniors and disabled visitors, and free for currently serving military personnel and members. The museum is at Building 126 on Severyns Avenue at the south end of Hangar One, across from the water tower; map programs may use 500 Severyns Avenue or 126 Severyns Avenue. Because it is inside Moffett Federal Airfield, adults 18+ must show photo ID at the Moffett gates; U.S. visitors need a REAL ID-compliant license or identification, while non-residents need a current passport.
