Mount John Observatory Summit Experience is a guided public stargazing trip to the University of Canterbury Mount John Observatory on the 1,029-metre summit of Mount John in the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve. Coach transport from Takapo brings visitors to the research observatory for naked-eye and laser orientation, telescope observing through 9.25- to 16-inch instruments and dome access. The outdoor mountain programme is weather- and wind-sensitive; warm clothing, sturdy footwear and current operator guidance on age, transport, booking and accessibility are essential.
