Mount Stromlo Observatory

Mount Stromlo Observatory is the Australian National University’s historic astronomy campus near Canberra. Its public site includes the Heritage Trail and Director’s Residence, open daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM and 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM respectively; the Café and Visitor Centre are currently closed. The site’s large telescopes were decommissioned after the 2003 firestorm, but ANU offers private stargazing sessions and public astronomy nights from April to September. Academic buildings are closed to the public unless otherwise noted; check ANU’s visitor page for current access and programs.
