Mount Wilson Observatory

Mount Wilson Observatory is the historic mountaintop research and public-heritage site above Pasadena where the 60-inch and 100-inch telescopes supported landmark stellar and galactic discoveries. The visitor experience includes the museum, the visitor gallery inside the historic 100-inch dome, the Astronomical Museum, the CHARA exhibit, guided and self-guided tours, public observing and occasional science and education programmes. The Mount Wilson Institute manages the site for research, historic preservation, education, public engagement and the arts. Access uses a mountain road and includes steep grades, stairs, 5,715-foot elevation and areas that may not be fully accessible; visitor opening, tours and weather or road conditions change seasonally, so confirm the operator current guidance before travel.
