Museum of the History of Baikonur Cosmodrome

The Museum of the History of Baikonur Cosmodrome is the city's public museum of the world's first spaceport, occupying the City Palace of Culture rather than the restricted cosmodrome museum at Site 2. Four permanent halls and an exhibition gallery trace the construction of Baikonur, its engineers, workers, test crews, launch complexes, rockets, spacecraft, and continuing operations. More than 8,000 collection items support displays that include precise rocket and spacecraft models, real flight-hardware fragments, a Sokol-K suit, signed flight clothing, space food, a complete International Space Station model, and models explaining vehicle assembly and launch preparation.
