NASA’s Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia, is NASA’s first field center, established in 1917, with nearly 200 facilities on 764 acres. It conducts aeronautics, atmospheric-science, structures and materials, autonomy, entry-system and space-exploration research. The research campus is not a casual walk-in attraction: NASA’s current center guidance directs public visitors to the Virginia Air & Space Science Center in downtown Hampton as Langley’s official visitor center and offers a virtual tour instead.
