National Air and Space Museum

The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum on Washington, DC’s National Mall is a flagship public museum of aviation and spaceflight, displaying landmarks including the 1903 Wright Flyer, Apollo 11 artifacts, the Spirit of St. Louis, the North American X-15 and historic spacesuits. The DC museum is one of two National Air and Space Museum locations, alongside the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Virginia. The Smithsonian currently lists the National Mall museum as open daily 10:00–17:30, closed December 25, with free admission and timed-entry passes required. Renovation continues in the DC building, so available exhibitions, entrances and visitor routes can change; check the current pass and exhibition guidance before travel. The Jefferson Drive entrance has ramps; visitors may bring mobility devices, borrow wheelchairs, request sensory bags, tactile discovery or sighted-guide experiences, and arrange sign-language interpretation. All visitors must enter through the Jefferson Drive doors and pass security screening; free timed-entry passes are required for every visitor, regardless of age. The museum is about a 10-minute walk from the L’Enfant Plaza station, using Exit A, or Smithsonian Metro station. Outside food and drink are not permitted, although bottled water is allowed; the Mars Café and museum store are on site, and pets are not permitted except service animals.
