New Mexico Museum of Space History

New Mexico Museum of Space History in Alamogordo, a New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs division and Smithsonian Affiliate, was dedicated October 5, 1976 as the International Space Hall of Fame. Its campus combines space-history galleries with the International Space Hall of Fame, John P. Stapp Air & Space Park, Daisy Track, Astronaut Memorial Garden, Hubbard Space Science Research Building and New Horizons Dome Theater & Planetarium. The museum’s fifth floor is temporarily closed for renovations, while its other galleries and exhibits remain open during regular museum hours. Visitors encounter Apollo and rocket hardware such as an Apollo 17 Moon rock and Little Joe II, aeromedical-test artifacts, Dr. Robert Goddard material, interactive space exhibits and archives/library resources. Current public hours for the museum and New Horizons Dome Theater are Monday and Wednesday-Saturday 10:00-17:00 and Sunday 12:00-17:00; the campus is closed Tuesdays, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. Museum admission is $8 for adults ages 13-59, $7 for seniors 60+, military and New Mexico residents, $6 for children ages 4-12, and free for children 3 and under; planetarium shows are separately priced at $6 for adults and $5 for seniors, military, New Mexico residents and children.
