Observatorio Astronómico Nacional – Llano del Hato

The Observatorio Astronómico Nacional at Llano del Hato is CIDATA's principal high-altitude astronomy complex and the largest observatory in Venezuela. Located above 3,600 metres in Mérida state, its four domes house an Askania Schmidt telescope, a twin 50-centimetre astrograph, a 650-millimetre Carl Zeiss refractor, and a one-metre reflector. CIDATA offers reserved daytime guided visits covering the observatory's history, domes, telescopes, and Museo de Ciencias Espaciales (MACE). Its scientific-tourism program also offers overnight stays and possible night observing, subject to availability and weather conditions.
