Observatório do Valongo (OV/UFRJ) is the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro’s historic observatory and astronomy teaching unit, founded in 1881 on Morro da Conceição and now home to undergraduate and graduate astronomy. Its museum spaces preserve scientific instruments used in Brazilian astronomy, including historic telescopes in three domes, alongside the campus’s heritage setting. The public programme offers guided daytime visits and scheduled telescope-observing sessions; school and larger-group visits require advance arrangement and current sessions can change. Visitor address: Ladeira Pedro Antônio, 43, Saúde, Rio de Janeiro, RJ 20080-090, Brazil. Confirm the current schedule and accessibility with UFRJ before travel.
