Okayama Astrophysical Observatory is the Kyoto University Okayama Observatory at Mount Chikurinji, a working Japanese optical astronomy facility supporting research and public education, including exoplanet, stellar and spectroscopic observations. Visitors can view the telescope from outside the dome free of charge, generally from 09:00 to 16:30 every day except New Year holidays, maintenance periods, and rain, strong winds or snow; access is via stairs from the adjacent Okayama Astronomical Museum parking area, and there are no elevators or escalators. Special telescope tours and open days are scheduled separately through the museum, and telescope operations can cancel a viewing without notice. Check the official visitor page and museum information for current closures, reservations and access before travel.
