Planetario de Montevideo – Agrimensor Germán Barbato

Planetario de Montevideo – Agrimensor Germán Barbato is Uruguay's long-running municipal center for immersive astronomy education. Opened in 1955 as the first planetarium in Ibero-America, its restored historic building now houses a six-projector laser system presenting 8K imagery across an 18.3-metre dome, while preserving its original Spitz star projector as an operating heritage instrument. The planetarium publishes more than a thousand shows between February and November, alongside courses, talks, and public observing. Its current 2026 programme offers advance-reserved fulldome and live-presented shows in a 156-seat theater.
