Punta Arenas Ground Station

Punta Arenas Ground Station is SSC Space’s operational satellite ground station 28 kilometres north of Punta Arenas at the southern tip of South America. Established in 2012, it has multiple 7.3- to 11.5-metre antennas operating in S-, X- and Ka-band for polar-orbiting satellite support, with environmental radomes for year-round operation in high winds; the site also supports SSC Space Go through 4-metre-class S/X/Ka antennas. The 25-hectare site has fiber connectivity, its own UPS and diesel backup, and space for additional or hosted antennas. SSC says its location can provide reduced-latency polar coverage when combined with northern sites and offers unmatched polar-orbit coverage opportunities when paired with SSC’s Western Australia Space Center. The site is accessible by a main paved road, but it remains controlled commercial communications infrastructure rather than a public visitor destination: SSC publishes no routine walk-in programme, so arrange access with the operator and verify current local permissions before field planning.
