RAAF Townsville Aviation Heritage Centre

RAAF Townsville Aviation Heritage Centre is a newly refurbished Royal Australian Air Force heritage centre at RAAF Base Townsville, presenting artefact-led stories of North Queensland Air Force service from the Australian Flying Corps through the Second World War and Cold War to today. Several hundred curated, captioned images and cultural-heritage artefacts cover aviation in the Townsville area from the 1920s onward, including the Second World War air effort, the bombing of Townsville and allied United States Army Air Force operations. Static displays include Caribou A4-285, Vietnam-era Iroquois A2-766, CAC Winjeel A85-403, PC-9/A(F) A23-022 and Dassault Mirage IIIO A3-55. The official Air Force page currently lists public hours of 09:00–12:00 every Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday; entry is free and no bookings are required. Contact rta.hc@defence.gov.au for current visitor or volunteer information. Public access is on a Defence base and opening, entry and access conditions can change, so check the official Air Force notice and follow base instructions before travel.
